Forgiveness, have you found it yet?

It was a calm, bright sunny, day when it arrived after so much turmoil. I did not know how to receive the gift. Part of me was angry for the accusations that had prevented me from receiving it in the first place. The other part of me was relieved and ready to move on; ready to write the next chapter in my life. At first, I tossed the notice on the floor of my car. Then, carefully removed it with care, secured it my purse, and then drove away from my mailbox. As I drove off, I thought to myself “how odd, just yesterday, I saw the man that had started the snowball a decade earlier—my ex-husband. Was this a message of some kind? Was forgiveness the key to unlock the barriers in my life? The past weekend had been one of those pivotal periods. I heard the words of Star Jones-Reynolds on Friday night. Her message was one of recovery and regrouping after life’s curve balls. I had attended a workshop on Forgiveness on Saturday morning, where I witnessed women still stuck in their sixties. It was then that I released the anger, vowing not to let the anger kill any more of me. I pledged to go and start a new. That pledge was tested that afternoon when I stepped out to socialize for the first night on my own, without fear. Over the next twenty-four hours, I would encounter both of my children’s fathers. To my surprise, I would be at peace with our interactions and my independence from these angry controlling men of my past.

Forgiveness is for your peace of mind. It helps you to be healthy again. I wish that I had learned more about it prior to wasting eleven years. Have you found forgiveness?
